Five of six CAL boys teams advance
A quartet of Cape-Atlantic League boys teams advanced tonight in the NJSIAA Tournament.
Mainland took the lead right away and won at Williamstown, 51-45, in Group 4. And Atlantic City, the two-time defending South Jersey champions, beat Cherry Hill West, 78-42, behind 21 points by John White. The Mustangs and Vikings will now meet at Atlantic City Wednesday night. The game can be heard on ESPN 1450.
Absegami used 29 points by Kevin Davis to defeat Washington Township, 73-52, in Group 4 for its first tournament win since 1995. Gami will now travel Wednesday night to Winslow Township. And Vineland defeated Lacey, 70-50, to earn the right to play Cherokee, a 69-55 winner over Millville.
Shaheed Rex scored 20 points as Pleasantville defeated Pennsauken Tech, 70-52, in Group 2. The Greyhounds will now visit top-seeded Collingswood on Wednesday.
In Tuesday night action, all on live radio, Ocean City hosts Timber Creek (94.3 FM) in Group 3, Wildwood visits Riverside (98.7 FM) in Group 1 and Holy Spirit goes to Metuchen to face St. Joseph (1450 AM) in Non-Public A.
