Atlantic City boys rally to beat Mainland in Group 4
Atlantic City and Mainland were tied, 25-25, at halftime tonight in their South Jersey Group 4 quarterfinal. But the Vikings, who had beaten the Mustangs twice during the season, took over in the second half and came away with a 71-58 win. Five players scored in double figures for Atlantic City. Eric Williams led Mainland with 18. ACHS will now travel Friday night to Winslow Township, a 77-62 winner over Absegami. The game will be broadcast on ESPN 1450 by Tony Blum and John Leon. Kevin Davis scored 22 for Gami against Winslow.
In other tournament action, Vineland let a seven-point lead get away in the fourth period and dropped a 65-64 decision to Cherokee in Group 4. Marcus Jiminez scored 21 points. And Pleasantville was beaten by Collingswood, 66-42, in Group 2. Shaheed Rex had 14 points for the Greyhounds, who fell behind by 24 at the half.
On Thursday, Middle Township debuts in Group 3 at home against Pemberton. Hear the game on 98.7-The Coast with Brian Cunniff and Buddy Tarbotton. Hammonton goes to Camden in Group 3, seeking its first tournament win in more than 30 years. And St. Augustine Prep opens in Non-Public A, hosting Notre Dame.
