There are obviously problems on the Phillies. The team's 3-9 start has further frustrated fans and increased pressure on the players and coaching staff.

Manager Charlie Manuel's reaction to a question by WIP's Howard Eskin after last night's bad loss to the Mets demonstrates how that pressure has changed the atmosphere. The usually low-key Manuel challenged Eskin to meet him in his office and then exploded with a spray of expletives.

Eskin, though frequently an irritating talk show host, is a hard-working and knowledgeable reporter. He actually started his radio career in Atlantic City.

Last night's reaction seems to reinforce the thought that, if the Phils' woes continue much longer, Manuel might be leaving.
