Gami-Spirit Scrimmage Highlights Week In Football
The final week of pre-season football scrimmages begins Monday morning when Lower Cape May visits Cumberland and Egg Harbor Township hosts a tri-scrimmage.
But the most interesting matchup of the week finds Holy Spirit at Absegami on Thursday night under the lights in Galloway Township. The Spartans should be the highest-ranked Cape-Atlantic League team in the pre-season and Gami is coming off its first-ever South Jersey championship season.
It has always been puzzling why most pre-season scrimmages aren't held under the lights, the conditions under which almost all of the games are played.
Also this week --- Millville is at Williamstown on Tuesday night; Middle Township visits Clearview Wednesday at noon and Mainland hosts Brick Township Wednesday night; Hammonton is at Cherry Hill East on Thursday afternoon and St. Joseph is at Collingswood Thursday night.
Five games are scheduled for Friday. The lineup starts at 11am with Lenape at Millville. Then, Ocean City is at Lower Cape May (4pm), Pleasantville at Egg Harbor Township (5pm), Oakcrest at Buena and Winslow Township at Vineland (both 7pm).
On Saturday morning, Middle Township goes to Overbrook.
There are two scrimmages next week, involving EHT (vs Clearview on Sept. 6) and Middle (vs Audubon on Sept. 7), two teams that do not open their seasons until Sept. 14.
