Ocean City Promotes Two Assistants to Head Coach Positions

Ocean City High School has promoted two assistant coaches to head coaching positions for the 2007-08 school year.

Matt Purdue, an assistant coach in boys track, becomes the new head boys track coach. He replaces Chris Armstrong, who resigned after four years to accept the athletics director position at Wildwood.

And Bryan Chojnacki, a former swim star and golfer at OCHS, will become the head boys swimming coach, succeeding Tim Matlack, who coached both boys and girls swimming last year. This year, for the first time, Ocean City will have a separate head coach for girls swimming. That coach has not yet been named.

Ocean City also confirmed former Holy Spirit and University of Delaware star Leo Hamlett as an assistant football coach, replacing Armstrong.

At other CAL schools, Mainland has named three new head coaches - Karen Williams replaces Laura Siteman in field hockey, Kathy Yohe takes over for the legendary Janice Mott in girls tennis and Sue Repetti succeeds Karl Geisinger in girls basketball. Geisinger will return to the football staff as an assistant. Mainland still needs to name a golf coach, taking over for Whitey Haak, who retired.

Oakcrest has named Christa DeWitt as its very first girls volleyball coach (you can expect girls volleyball, and maybe boys volleyball, too, to become CAL sports in 2008-09), Scott Montgomery to replace DeWitt as swimming coach, Vince Sera to succeed Dan Welsh as girls crew coach and Jason Brown top take over golf from the retired Doug Shiner. Brian Currie has been named Oakcrest athletics director, replacing Don Robbins, who is leaving to accept the same position at Vineland.

New head coaches at Hammonton are Casey McCullough (girls tennis) and Kim Velardi (girls soccer).
