Cape May Tech Loses Group 1 Game in 2 Overtimes
The only Cape-Atlantic League team in action tonight lost a thriller. Cape May Tech had an 11-point lead with less than 5 minutes to play when Wildwood started a comeback that led to a 66-59 win for the Warriors in double overtime. Matt Schiff led Wildwood with 20 points. James Coleman scored 19 for Tech. Wildwood will now travel to Paulsboro on Thursday night in a Group 1 quarterfinal.
There were a few other games tonight that have an impact on CAL teams, however. The Gloucester Catholic boys defeated St. Joseph-Metuchen, 55-45, to earn the right to play Holy Spirit Thursday night in a Non-Public A quarterfinal in Absecon. And the Woodrow Wilson girls, three-time defending South Jersey Group 3 champions, defeated West Deptford, 65-50, tonight to move on against Ocean City on Thursday night in The Dixie Howell Memorial Gymnasium. Wilson has eliminated OCHS from the tournament three straight years and four times in five seasons.
Tomorrow night there are 11 CAL teams in action.
In boys games, Atlantic City visits Vineland in Group 4 for the third meeting between the two teams and Mainland goes to Toms River North for a rematch of their South Jersey Group 4 football final. In Group 2, Pleasantville goes to Medford Tech and Middle Township visits Haddonfield, a team that beat the Panthers comfortably during the regular season.
You can hear the Brian Cunniff-Buddy Tarbotton radio broadcast of the Middle Township game online at 7pm.
In girls action tonight, Absegami begins its quest for a 4th straight South Jersey Group 4 title when it hosts Lenape. In Group 2, Buena plays at Delran. In Non-Public A, Holy Spirit travels to Bishop Ahr. In Non-Public B, Wildwood Catholic faces St. Joseph in the opener of the doubleheader in Hammonton and Our Lady of Mercy plays at Bishop Eustace.
