Brett Johnson Completes His Own Trifecta
Ocean City High School junior Brett Johnson finished first today in both the 800 and 3200 meters during the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 Championship Meet at Buena.
Johnson, the state Group 3 champion in cross country in the fall, completed the unsual triple in the three longest runs on the track. He ran the 800 in 1:56.96 by edging Kingsway's Tivo Rivera by less than a second. Then, a couple hours later, he won the 3200 in 9:22.9, five seconds in front of Shawnee sophomore Dave Forward.
Johnson is not expected to run the 3200 in the NJSIAA State Group 3 Meet next weekend in South Plainfield.
Others from OCHS to qualify for the state meet were Miles Schoedler in both the 1600 and 3200; Erica Adams in the 200 meters; and the girls 4x400 meter relay team of Katie Corson, Shannon Greene, Kelsey Greene and Becky Canderan.
Two CAL schools won South Jersey team championships - the Absegami boys in Group 4 and the Pleasantville boys in Group 2.
